Arguments for secularisation
Weber argued that as a result of industrialisation people are starting to look to scientific explanations & rationality rather than religion & the supernatural
Lyon argues that religion is going through 'Disneyfication' - meaning that it is becoming trivialised and taken less seriously. Fewer than 1/2 of all marriages in the UK involve a religious ceromony. Less than 1/2 of babies are now baptised, compared to 2/3 in 1950s.
Bruce argues that there is Technological Worldview - religious beliefs have become marginalised due to developing scientific explanations. Religion is directly challenged but its influence has reduced. People explain events logically, rather than believing they are the acts of GOD.
