Jacob Mallord An English Romantic painter, printmaker, and watercolourist, William Turner RA was also known as William Turner throughout his lifetime. His vivid colorizations, imaginative landscapes, and stormy, frequently violent maritime paintings are well renowned.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, a French artist, created the poster La Goulue. It is a colour lithograph from 1891 that promotes the renowned dancers La Goulue and "No-Bones" Valentin as well as the brand-new Moulin Rouge nightclub in Paris. It was probably printed in roughly 3,000 copies.

The term "Impressionism" refers to a painting movement that originated in France in the middle to late 19th century. Characteristics of the movement include unblended colour, an emphasis on the accurate representation of natural light, and small, visible brushstrokes that offer the bare impression of form.

In 1879, Muybridge created the zoopraxiscope, a device that allowed him to display up to 200 distinct images on a screen. He became known as the "father of motion pictures" when, in 1880, he offered his first audience a projection of moving images on a screen at the California School of Fine Arts.

Italian sculptor Medardo Rosso (1858–1928) rebelled against the dominant classic and romantic ideologies of 19th-century sculpture, becoming one of the first truly contemporary sculptors. The art of Rosso is considered to be Impressionist, as well as somewhat related to Realism, Symbolism, and Expressionism.

Neo impressionism and cubism were incorporated into futurist paintings to produce compositions that reflected the dynamism, energy, and movement of contemporary life. Futurists such as Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, and Gino Severini were prominent artists.
